Perforated Window Film Application
APPLICATION TIPS
All surfaces must be considered dirty and must be cleaned prior to application. (Cleaners such as Windex are acceptable; however, we recommend a 2 to 1 mixture of water and isopropyl alcohol.) Wipe the surface dry with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. Air and surface temperature must be above 55°F and below 75°F for the application. Avoid application on a hot mid-summer's day.
Although you can use an application fluid to do it, we recommend applying perforated window film dry. It's not too hard to pull the decal back if you make a mistake, and the holes in the material make it very easy to push bubbles out. Just go slow and easy, and make sure you get the decal lined up nice and straight at the beginning. If you slowly peel the backing off and squeegee down evenly and steadily, you should be okay. Just follow this routine:
1.) Line up the decal with the window you're going to apply it on. Make sure that it is level and straight. Then use masking tape to tape it in place. You probably want to get one good strip of tape across the upper middle portion of the decal, because you'll want to be able to get at the very top.
2.) Peel back the decal from the top and cut a 2" horizontal strip of the backing off of the top of the decal. This will leave an exposed strip of adhesive that you then want to stick to the window. Double check your alignment of the decal and then affix it to the window. You want to use the squeegee to push the vinyl onto the window, moving downwards towards the line you cut, making sure there are no wrinkles. Push smoothly and evenly, top to bottom. You don’t have to press hard, and you certainly don’t want to get too far ahead on one side than on the other. This will cause wrinkles.
3.) Now that the top of the decal is firmly in place, you can get rid of the masking tape. Roll the decal up towards the top until you can get at the spot where backing meets the piece that you already applied to the window. Take the edge of the backing and pull down, peeling it back a few inches. You then want to squeegee the decal downwards from the top, slowly pushing the decal down, unrolling the decal as you go. Keep pulling a little more backing off and squeegee-ing a little more on until you're done. If you need to trim the decal's edge's to fit better, do this when you have the whole thing stuck down.
In general, don't go too fast and don't get too far ahead of yourself. If you make a mistake, don't worry. The material is pretty forgiving and you can pull it off again within a few minutes. Just don't pull too hard or too quick or the material will stretch. You want to pull away at an angle that lets you pull slowly and evenly. Another thing to watch for is wrinkles which may appear as you are squeegee-ing the decal downwards. In order to avoid wrinkles popping up, squeegee slowly and evenly so that you don’t get one side more than a few inches ahead of the other side. If a wrinkle does form, you can usually press it down with your fingers. Be careful about squeegee-ing wrinkles, as they may fold and crease. If you run into trouble, simply pull the decal up and try again.
